We Did It!

Good Morning Newcastle neighbours

more photos coming ...

All the trees are in, hot dogs are eaten, and just a bit of cleaning up to do. Looking out at all of the volunteers planting trees on Saturday made me beam with pride. It just goes to show you all that working together is the only way to get things done. The list of people that made this vision come true is long and I will make an attempt to recognize just a few of the many that helped. First Chris Sholberg (City Planner) helped with pictures of  Vancouver Avenue. With his help we moved onto the next phase.

Next we applied for a social grant and received one thousand dollars from John Horn (Social Planner). With help from Alan Kemp (Parks and Recreation) the volunteers purchased and planted the first six red oaks on the 200 block of Vancouver Avenue a year and a half ago.

All seemed lost with respect to the rest of the trees for Vancouver Avenue and the project seemed to be put on the back burner. Then along came Alan Kemp with the news that we would receive nineteen more trees to finish off our project. Thank you Alan for persevering and going the extra mile for our neighbourhood!

With the help of many the holes were dug in preparation for the big day. The soil arrived and also the trees.  Then with the help of Lone Pine and over forty neighbourhood volunteers we got the job done in record time. With his many jobs as adviser and traffic control Alan kept us all safe. Thank you to Gord and David from the SECA for the hand and also to Joy from BHNA for the special hand. Thank you Newcastle neighbours for all your hard work and great spirits during the day.

Last of all I thank Lee-Anne (the best partner a guy could hope to have) for standing by my side. You were my sounding board, my adviser, and general get the job done sort of person. Thank you again.

PS: You wouldn’t be reading on this site without all the hard work of our website master Ria!
